Summary
I SHIELD my eyes and press my nose against the window of C & A modes, a new fashion shop in The Kingsway. There's a model daintily holding out the sides of her full circular skirt, price nine shillings and 11 pence, just look at that gorgeous taffeta dress with sweetheart neckline, Pounds 2 five shillings. There's a model astride a cardboard bicycle wearing canary yellow pedal-pushers, 10 shillings and six pence, she holds a banner above her head, it reads, "Here comes summer 1953".
It's the start of the school holidays and if I could find a job I would be able to save and buy all three. The fashion shops don't employ 14-year-olds. I could try the cafes or perhaps Joe's Ice Cream Parlour, but first I must go to the market to buy a rabbit.
