THE accident and emergency department at Llanelli's Prince Philip Hospital looks set to be axed under newly revealed plans to reorganise health services in Hywel Dda.
Health board bosses have presented three options for the delivery of emergency care across the region -- none of which include an A&E at Prince Philip Hospital. Major emergency departments will either be provided at Carmarthen's Glangwili Hospital or Withybush in Haverfordwest, more than 50 miles from Llanelli, or in Glangwili, Withybush and Bronglais in Aberystwyth -- in all three scenarios, Llanelli would be left with an urgent care centre, losing the current A&E department. But director of clinical services, Dr Phil Kloer, said there would be no dramatic change to the service currently provided.
