The sacking of Gareth Jenkins as Wales rugby coach after the World Cup pool defeat by Fiji was inevitable and correct. It was not just about results. The team's performance simply had not improved during his 18 months in charge.
But the manner of his going was brutal. Welsh Rugby Union chief executive Roger Lewis, who pompously declares that rugby is "the essence of Welshness" (try telling that to the many thousands of Welsh men and women who have no interest in the sport) says that the change of coaching regime must be handled with dignity.
