Summary
On a local radio phone-in this weekend, a gentleman rang in to say he was being ostracised at his place of work for speaking Welsh and listening to Welsh language radio. He stated he was in public service and worked for Swansea local authority. He had been subject to a disciplinary hearing for speaking Welsh in work and listening to Welsh radio. He would not mention the names of the people concerned but the "disciplinary" was not upheld.
My paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother both spoke fluent Welsh and lived in Hafod and Port Tennant respectively. Neither passed the language on to their children for fear of reprisals. As a result, I also looked down at the Welsh language as a waste of time and effort.
