IT was an emotional tribute to a 10-year-old boy that moved staff to tears. Ashleigh Johnson and her friends held hands and stood proud in their pink clothes in memory of her younger brother Rhys.

He died after being accidentally shot with an airgun at his home last month. Ashleigh and her friends organised the event after hearing about a similar pink day held at Talycopa Primary School, where Rhys was a pupil. It took place at Birchgrove comprehensive, which Ashleigh attends, and where Rhys would have started next year. "It's very difficult for us to put into words what the pupils did," said Birchgrove head teacher Karen Holland. "The atmosphere was great. It was just a lovely show of compassion from the pupils. "It was really humbling when they came and asked if they could do it.
