Summary
Mum, Susan and me spent our summers at Nan's house in Llanelli. The valleys round Llanelli were mining country and my mum's family were miners for many generations back. She was one of eight: Roy, Alf, Arthur, Ivor, Les, Gwyn, Ethnie and Emma. Mum was Emma, except that at home in Gosport no one called her Emma, they called her Mary. Nanny John was the matriarch and Nan's was the centre of my universe.
The train journey to Llanelli was one of the best things about the whole holiday. The Great Western Railway went through Gloucester and Stroud, snaked into Monmouthshire to Cardiff where we changed trains to Swansea. It was seven hours filled with excitement and anticipation.See the full content of this document
