SOME would say that a position of civic responsibility should come with a few perks -- travelling in style perhaps.
But in these tough financial times, when councils are shedding jobs and cutting services, can a local authority really justify spending more than Pounds 100,000 on transport for its civic leaders? While these figures would not make a dent in the multi- million cost of bringing our schools up to standard or closing the huge gaps in local authority budgets, it may make a difference to the former staff destined for the job centre, when they see the council paying for a flash car.See the full content of this document
