Gordon Brown is being urged to support a referendum in Wales over devolving full legislative powers to the Assembly and replacing the Wales Office with an Office for the Nations and Regions with a dedicated Minister for Wales.

The leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Lembit Opik, said it was time to cut the leash that Whitehall has held around Wales under successive Tory and Labour Governments and set Wales free from Whitehall interference.
