The recent cyclone in Burma has focused the world's attention upon the despotic regime in this notoriously troubled country, so it could be said that this one-woman production revolving around the life and times of Aung San Suu Kyi is a particularly timely one.
Suu Kyi - played here by Liana Gould - is the democratically elected leader of Burma, but has been incarcerated by the military authorities for over a decade. Richard Shannon's script emphasised the almost unimaginable horrors endured by the Burmese population under the iron fist of military leader Than Shwe, as well as Suu Kyi's own predicament, juxtaposing the brutality of the regime with stories about her early life and her time spent studying at Oxford University.See the full content of this document
