I WAS astounded to read that Peter Veale is proposing to vote no in the upcoming referendum on more powers for the Welsh Assembly (Have Your Say, January 8) because he thinks Carwyn Jones is not fit to be the First Minister of a more powerful Assembly. Surely if we applied Mr Veale's logic to the recent scandal over MPs' expenses, we would now be disbanding Parliament.

One politician doesn't make a political institution, and the behaviour of one politician isn't a good enough reason for stopping the people of Wales from having the opportunity to shape our own future. Mr Veale could register his dislike of Mr Jones's behaviour by either not voting for him or his Labour Party.
