High Price of Policy

Summary


Councillor Derek Vaughan, in his reply to my letter (Have our Say, May 12), states that on council tax and other major policies only the full council takes final decisions. Does he not realise that every item of policy is a major issue for the section of community it involves?

He tells me that the 3.1 per cent increase is the lowest in Wales. We have suffered from the highest council taxes for years, and the present lower increase was only possible because it was baled out by the Assembly. The cost of living rate was 2.9 per cent. Why were we charged an extra 0.2 per cent? Not a lot you say? Across the country it represents an enormous sum, and we have to pay it. Live within your means as do I, Councillor Vaughan.
