DAVID Lloyd Davies's latest letter was both misconceived and factually wrong (Have Your Say, May 29).

Swansea Council is neither bankrupt nor near-bankrupt. Like every council in Wales, we have had to make adjustments to account for pressures brought on by the recession. Given that 80 per cent of the council's funding comes from Welsh Government grants, then it and the other 21 councils are not in control of their own destinies. Chris Holley was right to point to the Welsh Government as the one pulling the purse strings.
