Campaigners Battling to Save Swansea [...]

Summary

CAMPAIGNERS battling to save Swansea Tennis Centre were due to gather today -- just hours before councillors take the next step towards closure. Members of Swansea Council's Cabinet were due to meet at 2pm to consider the authority's draft budget, which contains a plan to close the centre.

The council claims Pounds 50,000 can be saved by shutting down the facility. The money will go towards filling the council's Pounds 50 million financial black hole. However, just hours earlier, centre users were due to meet to plan their approach for keeping it open. Since it was revealed that the council plans to close the centre, scores of people have contacted the Post to voice their anger. Jo- Ann Miles, of Trewyddfa Road, Morriston, whose daughter attends the centre, said: "I think this is appalling.
