Novel Breaks New Ground

Memorial Fund-Raiser

In July 1940, a former luxury liner carrying British-Italian internees to prison camps in Canada was torpedoed by a U-Boat, sinking with the loss of 805 lives. Now work is underway to create a lasting memorial to those from Wales who perished in this little-known chapter of the Second World War.

Joe Set for Castle Date

An entertainer of the old school, Joe Longthorne brought a bit of showbiz dazzle to our TV screens throughout the 1980s with gutsy renditions of well turned-out standards. He also performed spot-on impressions of the great voices, from 1940s Hollywood stars to the crooners, The Rat Pack, Garland, Bassey, Tom Jones and everyone in between.

Punk Night

All the shades of punk will be on parade at the Duke in Neath, tonight, at their Punk Laboratory. Bambi Killers, who are gearing up to play Pontardawe and Margam festivals this summer, are the main attraction, with rockabilly undertones coming from Graveyard Johnnys, who you might have heard aired on the Mike Davies show on BBC Radio One.

Big Screening

Avant garde Swansea artist Neale Howells, well-known for his Manic Street Preachers album cover images, will show some of his work on his most expansive canvas yet - Swansea's big screen. Animation taken from Neale's show at Mission Gallery last year will be broadcast with music in Swansea's Castle Square throughout July and August.

A Classic Tale of Romance

If you thought love lives were labyrinthine in soapland, Shakespeare was centuries ahead. A Midsummer Night's Dream, which finishes its run at Swansea's Grand Theatre today, conjures up a fairytale scene where romance is far from perfect.

Run and Walk to Raise Cash

Supporters will put their best foot forward to raise cash for Parkinson's. The 5k Penllergaer Valley charity run, with a shorter walk for the less fit, will get underway at 7pm tomorrow, with registration at 6pm at the Pit Stop Cafe.
